The Biscuit-Makers of the Cotentin
Whilst staying in the area, you absolutely have to visit the La Maison du Biscuit , which is a real Cotentin institution. It’s just 20 minutes by car from the Hôtel Les Pieux, in Sortosville-en-Beaumont.
The Maison du Biscuit is one of the last remaining traditional biscuit-makers in Normandy. Stop off and find out more about their love of their work and their know-how, which is deeply anchored in long-standing traditions. You’ll struggle to leave without first making a few purchases in their fine foods store. Then you could round off your visit with a break in their tearoom. Everyone will find something to their taste here – it’s a visit that’s sure to be a hit with all ages.
Numerous other biscuit-makers are also to be found in the area – what are you waiting for?
Seafood from the Cotentin
The Cotentin is also famous for its seafood. You’ve surely heard about Saint-Vaast or Utah Beach oysters, not to mention Cotentin blue lobsters, Cherbourg salmon and Barfleur mussels? Make the most of your stay in Les Pieux by enjoying some of these products in a local restaurant or even buying them directly from fishmongers or the marketplace.
We absolutely adore the Cotentin blue lobster! Widely-acknowledged for its quality, it is caught in a lobster pot and complies with a range of quality and conservation criteria required by a certification label. Grilled with Normandy butter, in a fish soup or a stew, there’s no doubt you’re in for a delicious treat.
Cotentin Cider
The perfect accompaniment to your seafood dishes has to be a good Cotentin cider. Moreover, these ciders boast Protected Designation of Origin status – we’re talking apples at their very best here! Cotentin cider is notable for its refreshing sharpness. Discover a timeless taste with subtle flavours through this dry, full-bodied cider…
Many local farmers organize guided tours so you can find out how cider is made, from harvesting to bottling. Feel free to get in touch with us – we will be happy to tell you which cider-makers are located closest to Les Pieux.
